Put on the amount of clothes you expect to wear while riding. This may be an undergarment and shirt or undergarment, shirt and sweater.
-
Employ your helper to measure your chest with the tape measure. Relax your arms, then have the helper measure under the armpits for men and around the fullest part of the bust for women. Don't pull the tape tight. Allow the tape to be snug enough to stay in place but not so snug that it distorts the surface of the clothes. Keep the tape measure parallel to the ground. Note the measurement.

Employ your helper to measure your waist with the tape measure. Stand relaxed, then have the helper measure around your waist. Don't pull the tape tight. Allow the tape to be snug enough to stay in place but not so snug that it distorts the surface of the clothes. Keep the tape measure parallel to the ground. Note the measurement.
-
Consult the size guide for the manufacturer of the jacket. Some manufacturers instruct you to add 2 inches to each measurement, some 3 inches and some 4 inches.
-
Add the appropriate number of inches to your chest and waist measurements, then consult the manufacturer's size chart. Find the size for which your measurements fall. Pick the bigger size if your measurements are between sizes.

Tips & Warnings
